How to use EuroJackpot Odds Calculator
EuroJackpot is the other big European 5+2 game, not EuroMillions. It launched in 2012, is sold in 18 countries (including Denmark via Danske Spil, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Spain in some channels, the Netherlands, and others—not the UK, not Portugal’s Santa Casa Euromilhões network as the native product), and is drawn in Helsinki under Veikkaus. The current matrix is five main numbers from 1–50 plus two Euro numbers from 1–12. A line is €2 in most countries (exceptions exist: Greece and Slovenia often €2.50, Poland in zloty, Lithuania with a bundled Joker). Start with Tickets: distinct €2 lines for one drawing. Ten lines is Tickets = 10. Tuesday was added in March 2022; Friday remains the original night. This form prices one draw, not both nights.
Ticket Price defaults to 2. Leave it at €2 unless your till bundled a Joker or charged a local supplement. Those extras do not change EuroJackpot 5+2 odds. Jackpot is the advertised euro prize. The cap is €120 million after the March 2022 rule change (it had been €90 million). The €120 million ceiling has been hit and won many times, first in the new era by a Danish ticket on 22 July 2022 after the cap was reached on 19 July. Later €120 million wins include Norway, Germany, Czechia and others. Type 120000000 when you are at the cap; type the published figure when you are mid-roll. The engine will not raise a €90 million historical headline to the new cap for you.
Main Matches is 0–5 on the 5/50 mains. Bonus Matches is 0–2 Euro numbers, because two are drawn from 12. Jackpot is 5+2. Second tier is 5+1. This is combinatorially the same 5/50 + 2/12 shape as current EuroMillions, so jackpot odds match 1 in 139,838,160—but the prize table, cap, price, country list and operator are different, so EV at cap is not the same. Set Bonus Matches to 2 for the jackpot pattern, 1 for the 5+1 class, 0 for five mains and no Euro numbers.
Outputs: Jackpot Odds 1 in 139,838,160. This Prize Odds for your m and b. Jackpot Chance 1−(1−p)^tickets. This Prize Chance likewise. Jackpot EV = tickets×(jackpot×jackpotP − price). At €120 million and €2: 120e6/139,838,160 − 2 ≈ €0.858 − €2 = −€1.14 per line, worse than EuroMillions at its €250 million cap because EuroJackpot’s ceiling is lower while the odds are the same. Expected Jackpot Return ≈ €0.86 at the cap for one line. When the cap is hit, overflow funds feed lower tiers (notably 5+1); this calculator does not inflate Jackpot beyond what you type and does not model rolldown into tier 2. Paste the advertised top prize only.
About this calculator
EuroJackpot launched in 2012 as a rival to EuroMillions, organised by a consortium of European lotteries with the draw hosted in Finland by Veikkaus. It is sold in 18 countries—the mix has grown over time and includes Denmark (Danske Spil), Sweden (Svenska Spel), Norway, Finland, Germany (state lotteries), Italy, the Netherlands, Spain (as a third-party/offering distinct from SELAE’s Euromillones), the Baltic states, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Iceland and others. It is not sold as a UK National Lottery game and it is not Portugal’s Euromilhões. If you bought a Santa Casa slip, you are on the EuroMillions page, not this one.
The matrix began as 5/50 + 2 Euro numbers from 8, then from 10 (2014), then from 12 (March 2022). Jackpot odds therefore moved from about 1 in 59 million to 1 in 95 million to 1 in 139,838,160. This calculator is frozen to the post-2022 drums: 5/50 + 2/12. Ticket price is €2 in the core countries. Draw night was Friday only until March 2022, when Tuesday was added. The jackpot starts around €10 million and rolls to a cap. That cap was €90 million for years and rose to €120 million in March 2022 as part of the 10th-anniversary rule package. It has not been raised again. User rumours that “the cap was €120 million then raised further” are backwards: it was raised to €120 million, and €120 million is still the ceiling. Excess sales at the cap spill into the 5+1 tier, which can itself become a second eight-figure prize.
Famous wins are the €120 million cap hits: Denmark (July 2022), multiple German tickets, Norway (January 2024), and later cap wins in Germany, Czechia and elsewhere. A German syndicate also took €110 million in May 2022 just after the rules changed. These numbers are smaller than EuroMillions’ €250 million but enormous in Nordic and German media, which is why Danske Spil customers live on this game more than on EuroMillions.
Do not mix operators. EuroMillions: nine countries, Lucky Stars, ~€2.50, €250 million cap, Tuesday/Friday, Santa Casa / SELAE / Allwyn / FDJ. EuroJackpot: eighteen countries, Euro numbers, €2, €120 million cap, Helsinki draw, Veikkaus plus national partners including Danske Spil. Same 5/50 + 2/12 combinatorics since 2022, different money. This page is EuroJackpot only. Use it when the slip says EuroJackpot, the extra balls are Euro numbers from 12, and the till charged €2.
Math under the hood
EuroJackpot shares a matrix with EuroMillions and shares almost nothing else. Veikkaus hosts the draw in Helsinki for a consortium of about eighteen countries, including Denmark through Danske Spil and the German state lotteries; the United Kingdom National Lottery does not sell it, and Portugal’s Santa Casa Euromilhões network is the other game. A typical line is two euros. Since March 2022 the drums are five from fifty plus two Euro numbers from twelve, so the jackpot probability is again 1 / [C(50,5)×C(12,2)] = 1/139,838,160. The cap is one hundred twenty million euros, not two hundred fifty. Price, operator, country list, and prize table diverge even while the binomial product coincides.
Repeat the arithmetic so the coincidence is explicit. C(50,5) = 2,118,760 and C(12,2) = 66, product 139,838,160. Historical EuroJackpot was not this number. Euro numbers from eight gave C(8,2) = 28 and 1 in 59,325,280. Euro numbers from ten gave C(10,2) = 45 and 1 in 95,344,200. A 2016 stub priced on today’s drums is a lie. The 2022 anniversary package also added Tuesday beside the original Friday; each night is its own independent trial.
Hypergeometric identities match EuroMillions with “Euro numbers” in place of “Lucky Stars.” Five mains and one Euro: 20/139,838,160, one in 6,991,908. Five mains and none: 45/139,838,160, about one in 3,107,515. At the one-hundred-twenty-million cap, overflow can fatten the 5+1 pari-mutuel prize without changing those matching probabilities. Twenty lines at two euros, a forty-euro Friday, give jackpot chance about 20/139,838,160, which equals one line’s 5+1 odds because 20 = C(2,1)×C(10,1). That equality is a teaching coincidence, not a coupling between your slip and the second tier.
Expected jackpot euros at the cap are 120,000,000/139,838,160 ≈ 0.86 against two euros, so jackpot-only expectation is about minus 1.14 a line, worse than EuroMillions at its higher ceiling despite a cheaper ticket. Break-even on the top prize alone would need about 279.7 million unshared, which the rules forbid. Sharing at the cap is common enough that treating the 120 million as yours alone is optimistic. Joker add-ons and tax (Denmark versus Germany) sit outside the identity.
Do not paste a Santa Casa chave into this lecture. Do not quote Lucky Stars. Do not use the 8-face or 10-face Euro-number history against a current advertisement. The polynomial is 5/50 times 2/12; the institution is Helsinki, Veikkaus, two euros, 120 million cap.
