How to use La Primitiva Odds Calculator
La Primitiva in this calculator is the SELAE 6/49 game with Reintegro: six numbers from 49 plus a refund digit from 0 to 9. Default Ticket Price is 1 euro, default Jackpot 8,000,000. Draws are Thursday and Saturday. Tickets is the number of independent apuestas on one of those draws. A simple Spanish slip can carry several bets; expand them into a ticket count before you type. This is not the Joker add-on and not El Gordo de la Primitiva (5/54 on Sundays). It is the old Thursday/Saturday 6/49 whose jackpot needs the Reintegro digit as well as the six mains.
Tickets first. One ticket equals one six-number combination plus the Reintegro associated with that bet (on official slips the Reintegro is often assigned, not freely chosen, but it is still one digit from ten). Ten tickets are ten independent 6/49+digit lines. The jackpot probability per line is 1/139,838,160, identical in the denominator to German 6aus49 plus Superzahl even though the operators, prize funds, and cultures differ. Raising Tickets to 20 does not produce a hobbyist's chance of the bote; it produces 1−(1−p)^20 ≈ 20p.
Ticket Price is 1 euro by default, the standard Primitiva stake. If you added Joker (a separate daily-style add-on SELAE sells on the same ticket culture), do not fold that extra euro into Price unless you want EV to punish you for a product this engine does not value. Price only scales expected value. Combinatorial odds ignore it.
Jackpot is the bote. Eight million euros is a working default, not SELAE's current figure. Primitiva jackpots rollover and are advertised per draw; paste the real Thursday or Saturday bote if you have it. The engine assumes you take the whole jackpot. Shared winners split; this page does not have a co-winner field. Reintegro matching on its own is a stake refund in the real game, not a jackpot, which is why Bonus Matches = 1 with Main Matches = 0 is an interesting probe: you are looking at the refund-class probability, about 1 in 10 if mains are ignored, but the hypergeometric still conditions on however many mains you set.
Main Matches runs from 0 to 6 on the 49-ball grid. Bonus Matches is Reintegro: 1 hit, 0 miss. The top prize is 6 and 1. Six mains without Reintegro is a lower first-category split in the real table. SELAE also draws a complementary number for mid prizes (5+C). That complementary is not this bonus field. This bonus field is the 0–9 Reintegro, matching how the calculator's bonusPool of 10 is built.
Read Jackpot Odds, This Prize Odds, the two chance percentages, Jackpot EV, and Expected Jackpot Return. At 8 million euros and 1 euro a line, jackpot × p ≈ 5.7 cents, EV ≈ −0.94 euros per apuesta before lower tiers. Joker is extra entertainment, not extra jackpot probability on these six balls.
About this calculator
La Primitiva is the oldest name still attached to a Spanish state lottery, even though the matrix you play today is a 1985 reconstruction. The original Primitiva dates to 1763 under Carlos III, a raffle-like ancestor rather than a 6/49 drum. SELAE — Sociedad Estatal Loterías y Apuestas del Estado — relaunched a modern numbered game in 1985, and that is the object this calculator encodes: six from 49, Thursday and Saturday, one euro, plus Reintegro 0–9. The Christmas "El Gordo" that foreigners mean when they say El Gordo is a different SELAE product, a décimo raffle in December. El Gordo de la Primitiva is yet another game (5/54, Sundays). Primitiva is the midweek and Saturday 6/49 with a Spanish accent and a refund digit.
C(49,6) = 13,983,816. Times ten Reintegros: 139,838,160 jackpot combinations. That is the same combinatorial skeleton as German 6aus49 plus Superzahl, which is a useful comparison and a reminder that odds are not culture. Prize funds are culture. Primitiva's bote, category splits, complementary-number classes, and the Reintegro refund are SELAE policy. Germans do not get their stake back for matching a digit with zero mains in the same way. Spaniards who want a cheaper daily 6/49 buy Bonoloto at 0.50 euros with a thinner jackpot. Primitiva is the "serious" domestic 6/49; Euromillones is the transnational hunt.
Joker is the add-on to mention and then leave out of the model. It is a separately numbered extra that rides the same retail moment. This calculator's fields never see Joker. Complementary number (número complementario) is drawn from the remaining 43 after the six mains and defines 5+complementario prizes. The bonus control here is Reintegro, a 1-from-10 digit, because that is what the engine's bonusPool matches and because the headline category uses it. If you treat Bonus Matches as the complementario you will misread a 1/10 event as a 1/43 event.
1763 is marketing heritage; 1985 is the maths. Players who cite Carlos III are not wrong about the brand. They are wrong if they think the combination count is eighteenth century. Six from 49 is late-twentieth-century European standard, the same fashion that produced French Loto's earlier 6/49 era and Germany's 1955 matrix. SELAE kept 6/49 when it built Bonoloto in 1988 as a cheaper sibling, which is why this site needs two calculators that share a main-pool formula and then diverge: Primitiva multiplies by Reintegro, Bonoloto in this model does not.
Use the page to put a euro figure on the bote and a ticket count on your Thursday slip. Main Matches 5 and Bonus Matches 1 is not the jackpot; it is five mains plus Reintegro, a real category with its own hypergeometric. Main Matches 6 and Bonus Matches 1 is the jackpot. Daily-habit players who also play Bonoloto should not mix the two jackpot odds: Bonoloto's top prize in this model is 1 in 13.98 million, Primitiva's is ten times harder because of Reintegro, and the cash on offer is not the same prize fund.
Math under the hood
La Primitiva as SELAE draws it is six from forty-nine times a Reintegro digit, a Spanish reconstruction of 1985 rather than Carlos III’s 1763 raffle. Sociedad Estatal Loterías y Apuestas del Estado sells the Thursday and Saturday 6/49 at one euro, with Reintegro from 0 to 9 required for the top category. Combinatorics: 1 / [C(49,6)×C(10,1)] = 1/139,838,160, the same integer as German Klasse 1 and as EuroMillions, reached by C(49,6)×10 rather than by two Lucky Stars. The working bote here is eight million euros. El Gordo de Navidad is a décimo raffle; El Gordo de la Primitiva is Sunday 5/54. Neither is this lecture.
Repeat the 6/49 count so the Spanish digit is visible. C(49,6) = 13,983,816. Reintegro multiplies by ten: 139,838,160. Six mains without the digit is one in 13.98 million; the refund digit is a factor-of-ten tax on the bote. Covering the entire main grid at one euro costs about 13.98 million euros and still leaves a 90 percent chance of missing the Reintegro. Germans do not refund a stake for a lone Superzahl the way SELAE’s table treats Reintegro. Prize funds are culture; binomial coefficients are not.
Hypergeometric mains match any 6/49: C(6,k)×C(43,6−k)/C(49,6). Reintegro: one tenth or nine tenths. Three mains, digit missed: 246,820/13,983,816 × 9/10, about one in 63. Five mains plus Reintegro: C(6,5)×C(43,1)/13,983,816 × 1/10 = 258/139,838,160, about one in 542,008, an almost-jackpot class, not 1 in 140 million. Zero mains plus Reintegro is not “one in ten”: P(zero mains) = C(43,6)/C(49,6) ≈ 0.436, times 1/10 ≈ 0.0436. The complementary number from the remaining forty-three defines 5+C prizes and is not Reintegro. Joker is an add-on with its own space.
One hundred apuestas: expected jackpot count 100/139,838,160. Expected bote euros at eight million are 8,000,000/139,838,160 ≈ 0.057 against one euro, so jackpot-only expectation is about minus 0.94 a line. Naively adding 0.10 euros for a 1/10 refund overstates the published Reintegro rules, which typically interact with other categories. Bonoloto is the cheap daily 6/49 sibling at 0.50 euros; in a model without a digit its jackpot is 1/13,983,816, ten times fatter than Primitiva’s 6+Reintegro.
Spanish brand heritage is eighteenth century; the combination count is 1985. Keep SELAE, one euro, Thursday and Saturday, Reintegro 0–9, distinguished from 6aus49 by operator, refund custom, complementary ball, and two centuries of naming rather than by the binomial product.
